some of the things that keep me going, intellectually speaking; projects that i work on, some for money, some for fun, some for a good cause.
Wikipedia is a GNU copyleft encyclopedia, built around the Wiki metaphor. in English, that means that anybody can edit any page, add information, remove author biases, and yes, even vandalize pages. but the community does a really good job of policing itself, and in general i've been very impressed with it. a great example of the Wiki metaphor really working.
my friend shayde (or dave, in meatspace) runs a company called Stonekeep Consulting, which provides conference registration services for a nominal fee. it's a total traveling road show -- we bring the hardware and the expertise, you provide the volunteers to staff the desk. i've been working as his chief roadie since the beginning of 2004 (when we did Arisia), and it's been a blast. at some point, i might even contribute to the codebase.
Some programming projects:
- woot-scraper: an XCHAT2 plugin that scrapes W00t! and sets the topic of an IRC channel to the current item for sale. Especially useful during Woot-Offs.
